Kingstonian goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey has hinted that boss Alan Dowson is building up for one last shot at promotion from the Ryman Premier.

The shot-stopper, who was named supporters’ player of the season for the second time in three years after some stellar performances last term, has also committed himself to the Ks for another season.

But after a season of ultimate disappointment, which saw Ks finish 11th in the table, Tolfrey believes Dowson, who took over at Kingsmeadow in 2007, will have one more go.

He said: “Alan and I spoke before he went on holiday last week and he said he would give it one more year and give it a real good go.

“He wants to build the best team that he can, and I am hoping to be a part of that.”

He added: “I think he will be talking to the guys when he gets back, and then we’ll see.”

Tolfrey joined the Dowson era for the start of the 2009 season, and immediately became a fans’ favourite, confirmed by the supporters’ award.

He said: “I must be doing something right to win twice in three years.

“But I have been kept very busy this season, so the fans have seen a lot of me in action.”

While Tolfrey has commited his future to the club, and Simon Huckle had all-but joined Met Police, the fate of Tolfrey’s other team-mates is less clear.

He said: “Players come and go, that is part of football. I really hope to be here come next season, and I know when Alan gets back he will start building his side.

“But sometimes a side built in pre-season does not even make the start of pre-season because players come and go all the time, especially in non-League football.”

He added: “But for me, I want to stay and I am looking forward to next season.”
