Alan Dowson said the way Tottenham behaved and applied themselves during their friendly with Kingstonian last night was a credit to the Premier League club.

Ks hosted a Spurs XI in a glamour match and were beaten 4-0 but Dowson was still happy with his side’s workout.

He said: “They came down and weren’t big time at tall. We’ve got the connection through Martin Tyler, with Tim Sherwood and Les Ferdinand, who were fantastic and a credit to their club really.

“In terms of the match, we did alright considering, but to be honest we’d get more out of friendlies with Corinthian Casuals (who Ks play this weekend) because that’s the level of teams we’re going to be competing against through the season, but it was great for the players to come up against Premier League class.

“And to get 650 down at Kingsmeadow on a Thursday night was great, too.”

Kenny McEvoy, Jon Obika, Simon Dawkins and former Barcelona academy starlet Cristian Ceballos were on target for Tottenham.

Spurs named a strong team including England U21 international Adam Smith, who spent last season on loan at Championship club Millwall after a short stint at Leeds United, Scotland U21 keeper Jordan Archer and Jonathan Obika who spent last year on loan at Charlton Athletic.

And while the match was never even contest Dowson said he enjoyed the occasion: “It was good fun, and great for the fans to see players of that quality on their doorstep.”
