Carshalton Athletic boss Tommy Williams is adamant his charges will come good despite a sixth defeat in seven Ryman Premier matches.

Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Bury Town leaves the Robins second from bottom of the table.

They could be bottom by Sunday should they lose at basement club Cray Wanderers.

Williams said: “I would be worried if the performances were not very good, but that is not the case.

“We’re hopeful of bringing in a couple of new players by the weekend, but it is just a little tweak and not wholesale changes that are needed.”

He added: “It is too early to call the Cray match a six-pointer. We’re only seven games in and I am confident the results will come.” Despite the troubled start to the season, there is a silver lining.

The Robins first league win on two weeks ago featured a first goal of the season for 18-year-old Tommy Bradford in a 4-2 scoreline.

The three games since have garnered no points for Williams, but Bradford has found the net on each occasion taking his tally to four goals in four games.

Williams said: “Tommy came into the side at the back end of last season after coming through the youth set up, so we knew all about his quality.

“We’ve asked him to carry out a different role this year and be more of a goal threat and he has done that by breaking into the box from midfield much more.

“The timings of his runs into the box have been excellent and the he has found the end product on more occasions than not.”

He added: “But he is still young, and we have to protect him as best we can.”
