Kingstonian striker Ryan Moss persuaded new boy Charlie Knight to switch to Kingsmeadow and history reveals it is not hard to see why.

Knight, who found the net via an apparent free kick fluke in his second appearance for his new club at Met Police last Tuesday, first came to prominence alongside his new Ks clubmate at Bashley.

The 25-year-old was wing man for Moss at that time, providing the ammunition for the striker to fire 42 goals in 98 appearances for the Southern Premier League outfit.

And Knight is convinced the pair can hit it off again for  Alan Dowson’s men.

“It was nice to score on Tuesday.  It is not something I usually do, but it was intentional,” he said.

“It was one of those free kicks where you cross it in the hope someone will get a little touch on it, but it just went straight in.  I’ll take it.

“I tend to get six or seven goals a season, but I usually set them up to be honest.

“I guess that might be why Ryan wanted me to come down.

“I’ve known him through football for a long time and we are good mates.

“When we were at Bashley together it was a case of me crossing them in and him putting them in the back of the net.

“That is basically what we became known for.”

Knight left Bashley having moved to Wandsworth three months ago due to work commitments in his role as an account manager for tea giants Twinnings.

He had left Salisbury last year after helping them to promotion to the Skrill South and an FA Cup third round appearance.

And he revealed moving on from both clubs were difficult decisions.

“Salisbury were going full time and I could not justify doing that,” he added.

“I needed to have a career behind me so I went back to Bashley. I’d grown up and learnt my football there.

“It was difficult to leave. The lads were great there, but I could not handle the travelling with work as well and I’m enjoying things at Ks now.”

Kingstonian saw their visit from Leiston postponed on Saturday after the visitors’ first team coach got stuck in traffic on the M25 following a road closure.

Dowson’s side currently top the Ryman Premier League table ahead of this week’s trip to Billericay Town.

And while automatic promotion is the target, Knight revealed he is prepared for the play-offs if they come the club’s way.

“I got promoted with Salisbury via the play-offs and that is a great experience in terms of character,” he said.

“It is not about how you play football in those games, it is about making the right decisions at the right times and making sure you win.”
