Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has revealed he will do anything in his power to get Premier League winning defender Ian Pearce in his squad for the coming Ryman League Premier Division.

The 35-year-old appeared in a Ks shirt for the first time earlier this month - scoring in a 1-0 friendly win over the Anzacs - and is expected to line-up in the back four when former club West Ham United visit Kingsmeadow on Friday.

Dowson is also running the rule over 39-year-old former Bradford City winger Jamie Lawrence - who injured a rib in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Met Police - with a view to adding more experience to an otherwise young squad.

Ks have minor injury concerns over Adam Thompson, Max Hustwick, Liam Collins and Jamie Beer ahead of the weekend, while Bobby traynor, Wayne Finnie and Simon Huckle are on pre-booked holidays.

But Dowson expects his side - currently 16/1 to win the title with bookmakers Coral - to be at full-strength come the start of the Ryman League campaign and he wants ex-Fulham man Pearce to be part of it.

“Martin Tyler has contacts at Fulham and that is how we came to be in touch. He has undoubted quality and is still very fit,” he said.

“He has a lot of other commitments away from football, so we are taking things slowly at the moment and this is a good opportunity for the two parties to have another look at each other.

“I’ll get him in a room after Friday’s game and see where we go from there. It’ll be good for him to play against his old club and I’ll do all I can to get him on board.

“It is a similar situation with Jamie. We will look at him again when he is fit. We are very young side and I just feel could do with one or two more experienced heads in there.”

Dowson let goalkeeper Luke Naughton (Godalming Town) and Clement James leave the club this week in search of regular first team action, but he has not closed the door on them returning, revealing he will continue to monitor them.

And the genial Geordie will also be keeping a close eye on former AFC Wimbledon player Luke Pigden, who has told Dowson he is willing to fight for a place in the starting line-up.

“He knows it is going to be hard to get ahead of what we have, but he is determined and confident he can show me what he can do between now and the start of the season,” added the manager.

Meanwhile, Dowson has introduced a weekly weight-training regime to bring top-flight fitness to a side that was already the most durable in the Ryman League Division One South title.

“The higher up the leagues you go, the fitter people get. You only have to look at the professionals to see they have different body shapes to the rest of us,” he added.

“We were fit last year, but we can’t stop there and we must take things to the next level. It is all very well playing nice football, but we don’t want to be muscled off the ball.”
