Surbiton shooter Michael Bamsey and Kingston hockey star Josie Inverdale returned returned from the Australian Youth Olympic Festival laden with medals this week.

Bamsey secured a cleansweep of silver medals in the 10metre eir pistol, 50m 3P rifle and 10m air rifle events, while Inverdale was part of the Team GB women's hockey team that claimed bronze with a 2-1 extra-time win over USA.

Team GB collected a record 66 medals – including 19 golds – at the event in Sydney, which featured 1,700 athletes from 30 nations competing in 17 Olympic disciplines.

Team GB chef de mission Mark England said: “I have no doubt the experience gained will help them towards pursuing a place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and their transition to senior international sportsmen and women – some of them in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.”
