Carshalton-born boxer Craig Whyatt made it five professional wins out of five on Saturday night, and then paid tribute to his vanquished foe.

The 23-year-old beat Marvin Campbell at the Camden Centre on a technical knock-out in the second of four rounds, after putting the Stoke man down three times.

Whyatt had been due to face Alex Phillips, but the Derby boxer pulled out at the end of last week, leaving Whyatt with no time to prepare – however, it made little difference.

Whyatt said: “Williams was a little heavier than me but I got the win and that is what is important.

“It was pretty straight-forward to be honest and I was in control.

“To be fair to him, he came out looking to come forward and you could tell he was putting everything into his punches, which was good. He's a decent fighter.

“But I caught him with a few shots, and then body shot sent him down on the bell of the first round.

“In the second, I caught him with a head shot and he went down again, and as soon as he was up, I put a body shot on him and that was it.

“I’m really pleased with my performance, it was strong and just what I needed.”

He added: “I am going to take a break now but I am expecting to be back in September in a six-round bout.”
