Sutton CC skipper Johann Myburgh said his charges need to look at themselves in the mirror after an embarrassing 10-wicket at Spencer.

Sutton were skittled for just 37 runs in 17.1 overs, with number 10 James Wright top-scoring with eight, and remain bottom of the Premier Division table without a win to their name in four games.

Myburgh insisted the team will work hard in training to rectify an awful start to the season, but he also wants his players to step up to the plate – including himself.

He said: “Saturday was not good enough. We all know that as a squad.

“We have a couple of guys back from University at the end of June which will help, but we have good players in the team who are not performing, including me.

“This is a team sport, but we need a couple of the guys to dig in deep and put in a performance.

“The others will take confidence from that. At the moment confidence is lacking, which is understandable.”

After setting Spencer a miserly target of 38 to win, it took the visitors just 4.4 overs to bring an end to the sorry show.

Myburgh, pictured, said: “Being bowled out for such a low score has never happened to me before.

“I honestly thought we would get a partnership going, but it just never happened.

“We spoke about it after the game, and we all know we need to take a long hard look in the mirror and work extra hard in training.

“Then on game day, we need to dig in and fight for every run.”

Sutton go to Weybridge this weekend.
