James Dasaolu smashed another goal for the season on Monday night when he ran a new personal best for the 100m.

The Croydon Harrier ran 10.08 seconds at the Josef Odlozil Memorial meeting in Prague to beat his previous best of 10.09 set in 2009.

It comes just a week after he ran 10.14 in his first race of the season, the qualifying time for August’s World Championships in Moscow.

He said then his next aim was a new personal best and he now has it, taking him 10th in the all-time list of British athletes over 100m in the process.

His next target will now be to close on the sub-10 second barrier, a feat only Linford Christie, Dwain Chambers and Jason Gardener have achieved for Britain.

The individual success comes at a time when Dasaolu is concentrating on his relay speed – having been unable to take part in the 4x100m before due to injuries.

Alongside Chambers, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and James Ellington he anchored Great Britain to success at a meeting in Switzerland earlier this month and will next be in action at the European Team Championships in Gateshead on June 22, where he is only expecting to run the relay.

“The other relay members have run relays in America this season so Switzerland was a chance for me to see how I gelled with the team,” said Dasaolu.

“It went well, we won by quite a distance and got the baton round.

“Because I have always been struggling with injury I haven’t been able to do relays as well as the 100m. But this year I would like to be involved.

“I am running anchor at the moment but I will go where the teams needs me, I am happy to go anywhere.”

After Gateshead, Dasaolu will compete at the Diamond League meeting in Birmingham on June 30.
