Jarrod Nelson-Robb fought his way to two medals at the World Association of Kickboxing Organisation's Kickboxing World Cup in Italy last week.

The 14-year-old from South Norwood, who goes to Trinity School and trains at Phoenix Martial Arts Club in South Croydon, was competing in the boys' 13-15 age group and won silver in the light continuous fighting event and bronze in point fighting.

Nelson-Robb only narrowly missed out on gold in the final of the continuous event, losing to a split decision despite suffering a punch to the eye which affected his vision.

"Winning medals at the World Championships was a new feeling," he said.

"Because it was quite unexpected, it felt like a big achievement."

Nelson-Robb will now be confident of fighting for gold at the European Championships in Poland in September.

"Jarrod has trained for years to reach this point and is now among the best in the world," added Trinity School's acting headmaster Joe McKee.

"To be able to say that is incredible and Trinity School is proud of his stunning achievement."
