James Dasaolu has set his sights on reaching next month’s World Championship final in Moscow and breaking the magical sub-10 second barrier.
The 25-year-old Croydon Harrier was chuffed to lower his own 100m personal best to 10.03 seconds at British Grand Prix Diamond League meeting in Birmingham on Sunday to finish second, having earlier run 10.05 in the semi-finals.
Nesta Carter’s late surge in the closing stages saw the Jamaican pocket victory in 9.99 while the 2001 world champion from Saint Kitts & Nevis, Kim Collins, came third in 10.06.
“I’m always happy to run a personal best,” said Dasaolu. “Of course sub-10 is a goal.”
Dasaolu has already reached the world championships A standard qualification time but wants to go further.
“I want to make the final in Moscow and to do that I’m going to have to go underneath the 10 second barrier.
“I believe it’s a matter of time.”
