Fresh from anchoring Hercules Wimbledon to team bronze medals in the Surrey veterans over 40 road relay championships last weekend, 47-year-old Stuart Fraser put on another impressive display when he was just edged out on the line in Saturday's Wimbledon Common parkrun.

Fraser, who earlier this month beat a 130-strong field to win the Insurance 10km road running title in Battersea Park in 35 minutes, 34 seconds, was just outsprinted on Wimbledon Common where he lost out by one second.

However, his time of 17:19 was the second best age-graded effort of the day, was his best parkrun time for four years - just two seconds outside his best-ever time set on Wimbledon Common in September 2009.

Fraser headed home a bumper 20 Hercules Wimbledon runners at the meeting.

Alexie Calvert-Ansari, turning out for his first race for almost a year, was 10th out of almost 400 runners in 18:02.

However, he was only 17 seconds slower than the time he posted on his last appearance in the Wimbledon Common event in October last year.

Rohan Crouse posted a personal best time of 19:13 in finishing 21st to take 40 seconds off his previous best in August 2011.

Another Hercules Wimbledon runner to improve on his previous best was David Gold who was 24th in 19:31, a 21-second improvement on his previous best set in August.

Emilie Bokor-Ingram also bettered her previous best in finishing second in the women's race in 19:44, taking 11 seconds off her previous best time set a fortnight earlier.

Teenager Connor Bindler finished sixth out of 1,237 runners in the Teach First 10km road race near Tower Bridge on Sunday.

He clocked 38:28, less than two minutes behind the winner.

One of Hercules Wimbledon's Surrey road relay title-winning team, Joe Clark, posted a personal best time in finishing fourth out of more than 1,000 runners in the Richmond Running Festival half-marathon on Sunday in 77:08.

His time took more than two minutes off his previous best set at Reading in March - clubmate Andy Greenwood was 23rd in 85:14.

With Clark running in Richmond he was absent from the Hercules Wimbledon team which contested the South of England road relay championship at Aldershot on the same day.

The weakened sextet failed by just one place and 12 seconds to qualify for the national championship after finishing 29th out of 80 teams in 2:01:54.

Once again, the fastest member of the team was Matt Sharp who stormed round the opening leg in 19:25 to hand over in 37th place.

Fred Slemeck (19:55) moved up to 31st place before Kieran White (19:40) moved through to 26th.

Reserve runner Phil Glynn (22:11) slipped to 36th with Alex Robinson (20:20) and Rob Tuer (20:23) moving through to 33rd and 29th places respectively on the final two stages.

Pensioner Maurice Sharp, who the previous weekend helped Hercules Wimbledon take the silver medals in the Surrey championships, ran the opening leg for the veterans over 60 team which finished ninth in 1:49:12.

Sharp handed over in eighth place in 27:14 with Martin Miller moving up to seven in posting the fastest time of the quartet, 26:00. Dave Betts held onto seventh place clocking 27:09 while Stu Littlewood (28:49) slipped to ninth.

Hercules Wimbledon's track and field training sessions take place at Wimbledon Park athletics stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Further details from coaching coordinator Maurice Sharp on 020 8337 8707.
