Molesey manager Steve Beeks has for the first time ruled his side out of an end-of-season promotion chase.

After a run of results that has seen the side win just once in 10 games, Beeks has finally admitted defeat in his quest to make the Ryman Division One South play-offs and has instead set his sights on a promotion push in the next campaign.

The Moles boss said: "After the past couple of results, I don't think we realistically have a chance of promotion this season.

"They have put us too far out of the picture to mount a serious challenge.

"But I am looking ahead to next season and we want to build a side capable of challenging for a top-five place.

"I will be assessing my squad until the end of the season, so that will be a motivation for my players."

Friday night's 0-0 draw with in-form Tooting & Mitcham was the ninth time this season Molesey had failed to trouble the scorers, giving them the fourth worst scoring record in the division, despite boasting highly rated duo James Rose and Phil Ruggles up front.

To make matters worse, Rose, Ruggles and attacking midfielder Jay Richardson were forced off injured in Friday night's stalemate, although Beeks is hopeful of having all three back for the visit of Burgess Hill Town on Saturday.
