Aspiring young athletes from Surrey, Middlesex and London, will be among the hundreds converging on Leeds for Saturday's annual English schools cross country championships.

Sutton schoolgirl Sinead Long, who finished runner-up in the senior girls' race at the Surrey schools championships at Reigate last month, is included in the eight-strong senior girls' team.

The St Philomena's, Carsh-alton, pupil lines up alongside Julie Buddery, from Esher College, who was third at Reigate, and Tiffin schoolgirl Isabel Penney, who was sixth.

Isabel Brinsden (Rosebery School, Epsom), Faith Smith (Sunbury Manor) and Sophie Cowper (Wallington High), who finished second, sixth and seventh at Reigate, are in the intermediate girls' team.

Grace Shepherd (Rosebery, Epsom) and Grace O'Leary (Wallington High), fifth and sixth in the county race, are in the junior girls' team.

Esher College's Luke Jones, who was sixth in the county race, is included in the senior boys' squad for Leeds.

Stefan Richards (Glyn Techonology College, Epsom), Matt Wyatt (Claremont Fancourt, Esher) and William Bussell (Overton Grange, Sutton) are in the junior boys' squad.

l Three Wandsworth schoolgirls are in London's intermediate girls' squad.

They are Apoline Lambert (Putney High), Georgie Miansarow (Emanuel, Batt-ersea) and Stephanie Tilley (Graveney, Tooting).

Isabel Hunter (Emanuel, Battersea) is in London's junior girls' squad, while Graveney's James Wheeldon is in the senior boys' team.

l Richmond have six runners in action for Middlesex at Leeds.

Nadia Fidler (Teddington) and Rachel Price (Waldegrave) are in the intermediate girls' squad, while Ella Hatton (Teddington) is in the junior girls' line-up.

Carl Assmundson (Hampton) goes in the senior boys' race and Taylor Nunn (Whitton) and Tarek Yasin (St Paul's, Barnes) go in the junior boys' championship.
