Luke Gale reckons Harlequins RL have plenty of improving to do despite getting their Super League campaign off to a winning start last Saturday.

Quins saw off the Catalan Dragons 11-4 at the Millennium Magic weekend in Cardiff, with Gale contributing all the Londoners’ points.

But the stand-off insists no one is resting on their laurels at the Stoop.

Gale said: “Yes we got the win and that is what we really wanted but I think there is a lot more to come.

“We could and probably should have scored a lot more points than we did.

“But we have to keep in mind that it was the first game, we were using a new system and we had quite a few new boys out there.

“So although we are happy to get the two points there is a lot of work to be done.”

Gale struck with two tries inside the first ten minutes, converting one and adding a second-half drop goal as Quins kept the French side at arm’s length.

But the former Leeds player was eager to downplay his own achievements.

Gale added: “The first try was nicely worked but the second one was a bit lucky really.

“We have worked really hard in training over the past 12 weeks and you saw some of that early on.

“I know I got the points but I think it was our defence that won the game.

“Obviously it would have been nice to keep them to zero but to limit them to just one try in the corner in the final minutes was still a good effort.”

The Londoners host the Crusaders this Sunday, with the Welsh side on a high after smashing Salford in Cardiff.

And the 22-year-old is under no illusions over the size of the task.

Gale added: “Obviously we have got off to a great start and got the pressure of that first win off our backs straight away.

“But it is just one game and the Crusaders are going to be really tough.

“We need to push on, get more wins as quickly as possible and see where we go from there.”
