Former Therfield School pupil Phoebe Ayres enjoyed success on her World Cup debut last weekend.

She competed in the K4 500m spring event at the World Cup 3 Regatta in Duisberg, Germany, along with three of her team mates who train full-time at Dorney Lake, venue for next year’s Olympic kayak event.

Ayres finished fith in the heats for the K4 event which took her and her team through to the semi finals.

She then earned a place in the B final, earning eighth place.

Forty-six countries took part in one of the biggest competitions on the international calendar.

Ayres will now continue her training aiming for a place in the GB team for the European Championships next month.
