Richmond have named their rowing squad for the Thames Water London Youth Games Regatta which takes place on Saturday 4 June.

The borough finished first in the rowing competition in 2010 and their team manager has high hopes of success this year.

Included in the team are Natasha Gallagher, Kathryn Bevan, Andrew Whitbread, Oliver Foudah, Flo Blake Parsons, Christian Harper, Ilayda Herrod, Olivia Parish, Lauren Challice, Bella Taylor, Louise Ollington, Alexa Hughes, Will Key, Kye Bowman and Harry Pope.

Lizzy Walne, Richmond rowing team manager, said: “I hope for great things and that we compete well. All participants have been training hard; many juggling their training with studying for their GCSE exams. We finished fourth overall in the London Youth Games standings last year and I hope the rowing team can secure some valuable points for Team Richmond.

“We have Andrew Whitbread competing in the boys single and doubles. Alexa Hughes has been an excellent sports leader; helping to coach individuals on and off the water. We hope she performs well in the girls singles as she is coming back after some time off due to injury.

“We are represented in the borough by Waldegrave, Teddington, Orleans Park, St Catherines and Hampton schools, and outside the borough by St James, Kingston Grammer School and Wimbledon College.

“Some have been competing for their clubs at regional head races and regattas, but for some this will be their first racing experience.”
