Hercules Wimbledon's youngsters set the pace for the club's runners in the second of this season's 2XU Surrey Men's League meeting at Ham on Saturday with an emphatic team victory after taking the top three places.

The young athletes 2.5 miles race was the curtain raiser for the main event. Tim Livingstone led the way home crossing the line in 15 minutes 57 seconds finishing well clear of clubmate Ben Palmer (16:43) with Cassian Hyde third and top under 15 finisher in 16:38. With Augustin Mallon eighth in 17:49, Alexander Lloyd-Jones 10th and sixth under 15 finisher in 18:09 and Alex Bisnouth 12th and eighth under 15 finisher, Hercules Wimbledon gained a runaway victory in the team contest and hold a solid lead half-way through the season.

Hercules Wimbledon had 10 runners in the under 13 race and the club contingent was led to runners-up spot by Sam Helm (fifth in 18:15), Edward Grinrod (ninth in 20:02) and Diego Del Ser (10th in 20:16). Other members of the scoring team were brothers Elliott and Harris Mier, 12th and 13th in 20:20 and 20:21.

The senior five miles race saw the welcome return to action after a break of almost two years of Hercules Wimbledon's Belal Aly. It was his first race since competing in the English championships at Leeds in February last year. He finished 54th out of almost 200 runners in 30:45.

Despite missing many of their top runners, Hercules Wimbledon's senior men managed to lift themselves out of the relegation zone. They were led in by Kieran White who was eighth in 28:23 with Phil Glynn 36th (30:00) and Matt Sharp 47th (30:26). Then came Aly with Adam Przedrzymirski 64th (31:06), Alex Calvert-Ansari 66th (31:14), over 45 veterans Peter Lee (82nd in 31:48) and Pete Clarke (91st in 32:18), David Grima (105th in 32:56) and Nick Hemus (106th in 32:59). They were the top 10 of the 20 Hercules Wimbledon seniors in action at Ham.

White completed a busy weekend by competing for the RAF in a cross country match in Oxford on Sunday. He finished 12th out of almost 50 runners in the 10km race in 31:05.

Teenager Joe Toomey followed up his victory in the Wimbledon Common parkrun the previous weekend by taking second spot in the Princes Park parkrun in Liverpool where he is at university. He clocked 18:09 to finish 57 seconds behind the winner. More than 100 runners took part. It was only Toomey's third race of the year. His appearance at Wimbledon was his first competition for four months.

With the club's male runners focussing on the Surrey League race at Ham, it was a chance for Hercules Wimbledon's women to shine in the Wimbledon Common parkrun. Amy Aronson was first woman to finish in 19:56 with Alison Purnell seventh in 21:40. Charles Lawrie was the first Hercules Wimbledon man to finish in 22:44, taking second spot in the over 60 category.

Hercules Wimbledon's Steph Robson finished fifth in the Civil Service women's cross country championships at Parliament Hill covering the 6km course in 28:32. Chris Donnellan was 31st out of more than 650 runners in the Billericay 10km road race in 39:12.

Pat Wright was runner-up in the Leatherhead Fire Station 10km road race on Sunday. He clocked 34:32, just over half-a-minute behind the winner. Almost 400 runners took part. Peter Collins was 30th in 40:40.

This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon runners travel to Parliament Hill Fields, renowned as the "spiritual home" of English cross country running for the annual London cross country championships. The women's championship over 6km starts at 1.15pm with the men's 10km race off at 2pm. Earlier in the day many of the club's youngsters will be in action for Merton and Wandsworth in the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games cross country championships, starting at 11am.
