Morden mauler Lenny Daws has his sights set on fighting at the iconic Madison Square Garden after making his long awaited ring comeback on Saturday.

The 32-year-old, who lost his British light welterweight title earlier this year, fought on the undercard of Tyson Fury's British Commonwealth heavyweight title defence against Neven Pajkic fight in Manchester and beat Stuart Green comfortably on points in a six-round fight.

Carshalton-based Daws is now lining up another bout in January and, should he win that, he is hopeful of being on the undercard when Fury fights on the St Patrick's Day show at New York's Madison Square Garden - where Joe Frazier memorably beat Mohammed Ali in 1971.

"It would be a great opportunity to get on something like that," he said.

"To box in that venue would be unbelievable - all the greats have boxed there.

"Just to go there and box in that atmosphere would be electrifying, it is what every boxer wants.

"You need to grab these sort of opportunities when the come and I just have to keep in shape and keep winning.

"If you keep winning anything can come along - next year, I might even look for a title fight."

Daws' fight with Green on Saturday is the first time he has been in the ring since losing his belt in February and he was delighted to record another victory to take his professional record to 22 wins, two draws and two defeats.

"It has been a long time and I needed to get into the ring," he added.

"I have been training for a while and I needed to fight otherwise it would have all gone to waste.

"I am not really a six round fighter but we couldn't get anyone to take an eight or 10-round fight.

"He was a strong guy but if it was a longer fight I would have got to him as he was tiring in the last round.

"It has helped me progress my career and get another win under my belt.

"I am still in a good position and still only lost two fights in my career."
