Middleweight boxer Kieran Leinster has set his sights on securing a British title shot later this year, as he continues his meteoric rise up the ranks of the Queensbury Boxing League.

Leinster beat John Hefford to lift the national middleweight belt in front of the British Eurosport cameras in February.

The Teddington 22-year-old will be looking to continue his impressive run next month when he returns to the ring at the Epsom Downs Racecourse on April 19  for his next assignment.

Leinster has targeted a shot at the division's elite after seeing Chertsey’s Ruben Giles lift the British belt at the Alexandra Palace just a few weeks ago.

But all he is concentrating on is his first title defence - for now.

“ Everything is going really well for me in the league at the moment and my latest title success has made me even more hungry for more honours," he said.

“Every fight I have I feel I am getting better and improving as a boxer, but to reach that next level I need to stay busy and box as many times this year as possible and that’s what I’m intending on doing."

Leinster will be back in action at the Queensbury Boxing league’s big Easter event and is hoping he will get the same level of support from his fans that turned out in their droves to see him win last time out.

“The support I had at the last show was absolutely breathtaking, so hopefully they will all be out in force to see me put on another big performance and continue my run in the competition," he added.
