Boxing champion Danny Parsons reckons he has improved as a fighter since the biggest night of his career and is ready to prove it later this month.

The 20-year-old undefeated Queensbury Boxing League national lightweight titleholder will defend the belt he claimed in July when he takes on Liverpool’s Marvin Hilliaire at Epsom Downs Racecourse on October 25.

The Kingston boxer and former Teddington School student is unbeaten in five appearances in the league – fights that have all aired on satellite TV channel Eurosport.

And Parsons, who has barely rested since claiming his title at London’s Alexandra Palace in the summer, is not about to suffer a blemish on his record.

“Since winning the national title back in London I feel I’ve moved on to another level in my boxing,” he said.

“I can’t wait to get in there now and defend my title on home soil.

“Since winning the national belt I’ve only had a couple of weeks out of the gym, and with a few weeks to go I feel in incredible shape and I literally could fight tomorrow, I’m that ready.”

He added: “From what I’ve seen of Hilliare, he looks like he’s a mover and likes to hit and then quickly move out of range.

“But we’ve been working on a game plan for him specifically and I’m more than confident I will be able to deal with him on the night.

“As I’ve said before I’ve worked too hard to get to where I am right now and let it all slip away and lose my title and undefeated record.”
