Lenny Daws says age is no barrier when it comes to achieving your boxing dreams.

The 35-year-old is back in the ring on Saturday at Bluewater to face Chaquib Fadli, 33, for the EBU EU light welterweight title.

Morden-born Daws has already won the title once, but he vacated it last year for an ultimately unsuccessful shot at the EBU title.

Daws said everyone is telling him his time is fast approaching its end, but he has a message for them.

“I am gifted with my fitness, and I will keep going for as long as I can,” he said.

“I have been training with 22-year-olds and they cannot stay with me.

“Carl Froch is 37, Floyd Mayweather Jnr is 37, George Foreman won the world heavyweight title at 45.

“Boxers are going on a lot longer these days because we know how to live our lives right.

“It’s all about eating well, not drinking and partying, getting early nights – a lot of youngsters come to the gym for sparring and they are out drinking every weekend, and then complain that they are getting beaten. Well, can’t they see why?

“Do all that after your career, focus on your career and give it 100 per cent.

“Think about the fun after you’ve packed up – because once your career is gone, there is no going back.

“Boxing is a hard game, so hang up the gloves and then enjoy your life.”

Should Daws overcome Fadli on Saturday, he wants another shot at the EBU title.

Last time round, he lost to Michele Di Rocco of Italy in controversial circumstances, but he doubts there will be a rematch.

Daws said: “Di Rocco has moved up the world rankings since we fought, and he’ll probably be in with a world title shout and have to vacate the EBU belt.

“Even if he doesn’t have a fight, I reckon he’d vacate anyway because he won’t want a rematch with me.”

He added: “For the moment, I am concentrating on Saturday night and I’m feeling good.”
