New Addington's Gareth Gardner admitted he came through a scare to retain his Queensbury Boxing League British middleweight title.
Gardner beat Joel Wanderema at the Epsom Downs racecourse on Saturday by a unanimous points decision – extending his unbeaten run to 11 bouts at the same time.
However, in the third round of five Wanderema landed a punch that had Gardner rocking.
He said: “I felt a bit rusty in there as it’s been nearly six months since I last fought, and I got caught by a silly shot in the third round, but I came back strongly and other than the third I think I won every round.”
Gardner’s title win will be shown on British Eurosport in June as part of a Queensbury Boxing League special.
