Mitcham's Tony Chaplin returned to the Queensbury Boxing League (QBL) with a bang on Saturday night, after stopping rival Kieran Wallis inside two rounds.

Making his first appearance in the QBL after a two-year hiatus from the sport, the 29-year-old was on fire from the opening bell landing eye-catching combinations to both head and body that visibly hurt his much taller rival.

As the second round got under way Chaplin continued where he left off in the opener by landing sickening body shots that were clearly audible around the packed out arena, and it was not long before Wallis was in major trouble forcing referee Seamus Dunne to call a halt to proceedings.

Chaplin said: “He was strong and aggressive and he definitely has power after I took one on the chin in the opener, but once I settled down I felt great and the victory came.

“I was a little bit hesitant in the first round and when I got back to the corner my team told me just to relax, and when I caught him to the body I knew I was hurting him.

“Now that I’m back in the gym and feeling good, the next step is to move down to the welterweight division which is something I’ve been targeting for a long time now, so I’ll be back in the gym next week and back in action in Epsom in September."
