Sandown Park racecourse in Esher will host a Kids Love the Races roadshow alongside the bet365 Jump Finale at the weekend.

The free roadshow introduces children to the world of horseracing.

They can learn about the equine and human stars of the sport, how the horses are cared for, see specialist racing equipment, take part in a hurdles race and design their own racing silks.

Rupert Trevelyan, London regional director for the Jockey Club, says: “Racing is a brilliant sport and these roadshows will provide a great opportunity for educating younger race-goers by making the sport more accessible to them.”

The Kids Love the Races roadshow coincides with the bet365 Jump Finale, which features an all-jumps card this year.

Rod Street, chief executive of Great British Racing, said: “Racing provides fantastic entertainment and sporting action for all the family and is one of the few leisure activities where kids go free.

“As well as the thrill of watching horses race around the track at more than 40mph this new, interactive roadshow will help kids get the most out of a great day at the races.”

Gates open at 11am at Sandown Park and the first race is at 2pm.
