London Welsh winger Phil MacKenzie and second row Kirill Kulemin will join Sale Sharks at the end of the Aviva Premiership season.

Canadian international MacKenzie scored eight tries in 22 appearances for the Exiles this season in all competitions, including a brace away to Stade Francais in January in the Amlin Challenge Cup.

Like MacKenzie, Kulemin arrived at London Welsh last summer. The Russian international has made 22 appearances for the club.

Exiles head coach Lynn Jones said: “I’m delighted for them both; they’ve really improved this year and it’s great to see them being rewarded with Premiership contracts.

“Their game has come on really strongly. Phil’s scored a lot of tries and Kirill has grown in the league with his size and physicality. I’m sure they’ll both be very good signings for Sale."

In the Championship next season clubs will have to average 16 English qualified players in their 22-man match day squad over the course of the season in order to receive their share of RFU funding.

Jones said: "For us, it’s about English qualified players. With Phil being Canadian and Kirill being Russian, it was always going to be difficult for us to keep on too many non-English players for next season in the Championship."
