Rosslyn Park head coach Alex Codling is determined that his charges will have an impact on National League One over all 30 games.

Under the leadership of Jan Bonney last term, Park were five points clear at the top at the turn of the year – however, they fell away to eventually finish fourth.

Now, with Codling at the helm, Park start a new campaign at Cinderford on Saturday having beaten Neath (48-25) and Southend (48-8) in pre-season friendlies.

He said: “This is the toughest league in England, it is just a twist away from the professional set-up.

“The skills level and commitment needed to succeed in this league are second to none and you must have strength in depth.

“Doncaster Knights are probably the favourites as they have the only full-time professional set up in the league, Esher will be strong and Blaydon are always tough opponents.

“But anyone can beat anyone in this league, you have to be at your best week in, week out.

“But we cannot spend too long thinking about other clubs, we have to concentrate on ourselves, our game and if we do that, I know we can give anyone in the league a good game.

“What I want most of all is consistency over all 30 games, not just 10 or 15. Realistically, if we don’t do that, then there is little chance.”

Park have brought in 14 new names – six from last year’s National One champions Ealing Trailfinders – as well as former Scottish international Hugo Southwell as backs coach.

Going out the club are Ross Laidlaw (retired), Luke Campbell (personal commitments) and Nev Edwards (Bedford Blues).

Codling, who has an England cap to his name and has coached at London Scottish and London Welsh, has also named Darrell Ball as club captain ahead of Saturday’s trip to Gloucesterhsire.

Codling said: “Cinderford is a great start for us. It will be very tough but after the way we have been playing in pre-season we can take them on.”

New names: From Ealing Tfs: Lewis Brown (prop); James Inglis (lock); Sam Shires (back row); Pete Hodgkinson (full back); Lee Starling (back row) and Rory Damant (centre). Adam Bellamy (hooker from Dings Crusaders); Tom Cobb (hooker from Richmond); George Blomfield (back row from Sunnybacks); Harry Broadbent (back row from Caldy); Scott Sneddon (fly-half from Newport); Mike Ward (fly-half from London Irish); Will Simpson (centre from Doncaster Kts); Henry Staff (centre from Bedford Blues).
