Alex Codling wants even more from his Rosslyn Park team despite seeing them extend their unbeaten start to the National One season with victory over Blaydon on Saturday.

Second-half tries from Charles Gower, Dominic Shabbo, Henry Staff and Sam Shires handed the home side a 41-15 victory for a third win from four matches, the 6-6 draw with Henley Hawks the only blot on their copybook so far.

It ends a successful month for Codling’s men that sees them sit sixth in the league, five points off leaders Doncaster Knights.

But, while delighted with the results, the head coach, left, is still pushing for more.

“It’s very positive to go through the whole of September unbeaten,” he said.

“We have had some tough games and had to work hard.

“When we’re scoring tries, we’re scoring some outstanding ones, but it’s just about making more of our opportunities.

“There’s definitely more in the group.”

It wasn’t all plain sailing against Blaydon, with the first half a tight affair, with four Sam Katz penalties edging Park into a 12-5 interval lead.

But, rallied by a half-time tongue-lashing from Codling, Park showed their dominance after the break, with Katz adding a further two penalties and converting three of the four tries that came in the last 30 minutes.

“Obviously, we are delighted to get the bonus point win, it was just disappointing with the way we played the first half,” added Codling.

“We lacked accuracy and the intensity at the break down, but the lads knew about it at half time and what I said to them can’t be repeated in print.

“We were much improved in the second half and I was pleased with that.

“It’s a tough league and we are probably only in second gear at the minute which, on the one hand is frustrating, but on the other hand it shows the massive potential as a team which is exciting.

“We have Old Albanians on Saturday and they are another team that likes to run with ball in hand, so we will have to be prepared for that.”
