On Saturday, Sutton’s young team travelled to run away league leaders, Chichester, but, despite showing great spirit, came away with yet another defeat as they lost 38-7.

Chichester’s pack dominated the game giving their backs a great platform to score on regular intervals.

The power of the home forwards was such that they were able to disrupt Sutton’s pack at will and leave the visitors to live off scraps.

Sutton though despite this gave their all and fought hard in defence to keep the score down.

Other sides visiting Chichester this season have suffered a much worse fate losing by much bigger margins.

Chichester scored four tries before half time one for centre Lewis Joiner, two for wing Toby Golds and the fourth from lock Scott Barlow.

Three of which were converted by fly half Stuart Pearham.

Sutton rallied in the second half and managed to keep the try count down to two, Chichester scoring through flanker Ben Pohill and lock Jack Taggart. Both converted by Pearham.

Sutton though refused to lie down and scored a try on 76 minutes as No 8 Matt Whitacker powered his way over. Scrum half Frankie Murray converted.

There is still a long way to go for Sutton’s young team but each match shows an improvement and with the return of scrum half Steve Munford not far off their first win of the season is surely coming.

On Saturday Sutton take on Sidcup RFC at home at Rugby Lane, Cheam.

It is many years since the two sides met but matches between the sides have always been hard fought affairs. Kick off will be at 3pm.
