Peter Lydon has warned London Scottish’s Championship rivals their impressive win over Rotherham Titans last week is the tip of the iceberg for director of rugby Mike Friday’s men, writes Oli Shapley.

The ex-Stade Francais player was at the centre of Scottish’s 32-23 bonus-point win in the opening round of Championship matches – scoring 12 points and crossing the try-line on his debut.

But the Irishman, only upstaged by skipper Mark Bright’s man of the match winning hat-trick, feels there is more to come as they target victory at Cornish Pirates on Sunday.

“It was a great victory, but we were a long way from being 100 per cent,” said Lydon.

“We have had a lot of new guys come in this summer, including myself, and have settled well. The pre-games helped us gel so now we can look towards a strong Championship campaign.”

He added: “We want to pick up as many five point wins as possible and against the Cornish Pirates we are looking to make it the perfect start.

“It’s a long way to travel but we are going there to win.

“We all want to get into the top four come April, but there is a long way to go.”
