Old Walcountians beat the conditions as well as Old Blues 10-7 in a bid to ease relegation worries from Surrey League One.

Only two games survived the weather in the division and last minute switch of venues was the answer for this fixture.

The Blue’s pitch at Motspur park was deemed unplayable and the game was switched to Walcountians.

Walcountians opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when centre Fred South scored his seventh try of the season by going over in the left hand corner - 5-0 to Walcountians.

Seven minutes later, Walcountians extended their lead when South chipped the ball over the Blues defence.

The ball bounced kindly for Walcountians as winger Ben McDaniel took advantage by touching down making the score 10-0.

Blues had the conditions in their favour in the second half and began to stretch Walcountians’ defence.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Blues’ inside-centre finished off a move started from recycled ball from a ruck on the Walcountians 22 by crossing the line for a converted try.

This reduced Walcountians’ lead to three points at 10-7.

The remainder of the game belonged to Walcountians as their pack took charge and props Pete and Steve Cowlin, lock Dom Bell, number eight Gerry Connor prominent in keeping possession -Walcountians pack was well controlled by scrum half Callum Stone.

Walcountians are still second from bottom in Sthe table, and have five games left, including two against promotion seeking Old Tonbridgians and Old Wimbledonians.

With other teams now having games in hand, it is important that Walcountians win their remaining games, starting on March 8 when they take on Kingston at Clock House - kick-off 2:30pm.
