Wimbledon kicked off the new year with an emphatic 46-12 win over Charlton Park to remain top of London Division One South, but coach James Ogilvie-Bull says all talk of promotion is banned.

Tries from Steve May, James Gillespie, Josh Charles, Gary Crowe, Bryan Croke and Rhys Morgan, plus 16 points off Neil Hallett’s boot did the business and keep Dons four points clear of Guildford, who they face this weekend in Surrey.

The top four are separated by just eight points, and there are still 11 games to go, making Bully’s words all the more pertinent.

He said: “There is a positive attitude in the camp, but we’re not looking too far ahead.

“We’re not talking about promotion. If we’re still top towards the very end of the season, then maybe we can start talking about the plans we made at the start of the season, but for the time being, no talk of promotion.”

This weekend’s top of the table clash pits two Harlequins stars against eachother, as Dons head coach Nick Easter and his Guildford opposite Dave Ward go head to head.

Bully said: “We beat them 18-16 at our place earlier in the season, and we’re expecting a tough game.

“The fact the two Quins guys are facing off will add extra spice, and I am sure there has been some extra banter between them in training.

“But we are going to Guildford, fully expecting to come away with the win.”
