Laura Robson is through to the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in her senior career after a comprehensive straight sets win over Mariana Duque-Marino.

The 19-year-old, ranked 39 in the world, was too hot for the 23-year-old Columbian, winning 6-4 6-1 in an hour and 13 minutes.

Under the roof of centre court, the nerves Robson battles so hard to control were evident in the first set as the players exchanged breaks of serve.

The nerves seem to be getting the better of Robson when Duque-Marino fought back from 5-2 down to 5-4, however, the Columbian’s own nerves would not hold and she conceded the first set on her own serve.

Thereafter it was a formality as Robson raced away, serving up a dose of the power from the baseline that did for Maria Kirilenko on Tuesday.

Robson now faces Marina Erakovic of New Zealand in the third round – the Croatian born doubles specialist is ranked 71 in the world and has never got to the last 16 – just like Robson, so something will have to give.

Reaction to follow.
