As a member of the Get Set Network, Carshalton College’s Sport’s department was given tickets to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Tickets covered a variety of sports including basketball, gymnastics, athletics, hockey, wrestling, football and table tennis as well as a number of medal ceremonies.

Carshalton College is working in partnership with Building Lives and Sutton Housing Partnership to provide The Building Lives Training Academy. Opening in September 2012 the academy will be offering 25 paid apprenticeship opportunities to local people living in the London Borough of Sutton.

Carshalton College Way to Work Programme for Year 10 & 11

22 students in Years 10 and 11 from a number of Sutton's secondary and Special schools celebrated completing the ‘Key Stage 4 Way to Work Programme’. This was a series of 16 workshops and work-based learning activities in catering, construction, hair and beauty and motor vehicle maintenance. The aim of the programme was to provide learners with an opportunity to learn new skills and try different courses that may enable them to progress to further training or employment at the end of Year 11. In addition each course had an element of accreditation and support with the development of English, Maths and IT.

Paralympic Festival

Last year a number of organisations in the London Borough of Sutton came together to put on a joint community Paralympic Festival for people with learning difficulties in the borough. Following the great success of this event, with attendance of around 600 people, they are holding another Paralympic Festival on Wednesday 20 June 2012 at Sutton Arena Leisure Centre.
