Further to Mr Turner’s letter (Someone should be sacked for ridiculous parking case, March 14) the penalty referred to was withdrawn.
There is a clear informal process in place for all recipients of tickets, if found in favour of the recipient the ticket is cancelled. There are no additional costs to the driver, nor is there a procedure whereby either party would have to attend court.
The CCTV smart car is clearly marked, a highly visible deterrent and is not covert in any way; we aim to provide and open and transparent service in Sutton Parking Service. Any evidence captured is available to the recipient upon request; the process is very open one.
The drivers of the CCTV smart car have a statutory exemption when carrying out their duties, which are to enforce parking infringements and reduce inconsiderate parking in the borough and improve road safety.
