Both our local LibDem MPs have voted against a House of Commons amendment to the energy Bill which would set a clear decarbonisation target for 2030, despite this being their party policy as voted for overwhelmingly at their conference last year.

This leaves their own, and their leadership’s green credibility in tatters.

It’s both a betrayal of our children but also, in placing faith in another ‘dash for gas’ analysts reckon it’s economically and politically very risky as well as sending another signal to business that government isn’t serious enough about the future carbon reduction policy, when progressive businesses are crying out for political leadership and policy certainty.

The only point of consistency is that the LibDem backed coalition government is doing its best to derail decarbonisation targets in Europe too, in the interests of ‘cutting costs for business’.

In contrast, Green MP Caroline Lucas argued that a target was crucial if the UK was "serious about securing a global deal on climate change".

What’s the point of having Liberal Democrat MPs who meekly troop into the Tory lobby to protect their own jobs?
