I read with concern David Murray’s letter about NHS cuts (Where is your apology for catastrophic cuts, MP Brake? September 11).

Taking up one point regarding “Half the senior posts in accident and emergency are now left vacant”, I wonder if David has visited accident and emergency (A&E) at St Helier recently?

I have been there twice recently as my wife had two brief visits.

David Murray’s comment on A&E’s loss of senior posts does not appear to affect the day-to-day service.

On both occasions, I was very impressed that my wife was being treated with the high quality standard and availability of staff. I was also impressed by the quality of treatment.

David suggests half of the senior posts in A&E have gone.

I was amazed both times I visited at the number of staff present; ranging from porters, to visiting ambulance workers/ drivers, to nurses and obviously specialist advisers/doctors.

Are these missing senior posts way above this level? – then maybe there were too many top people anyway.

As for David waiting for an apology from Tom Brake – no other MP in the past 30 years, except maybe his fellow Liberal Democrat MP Paul Burstow, have worked as hard as Tom for St Helier Hospital.
