A couple of weeks ago I was on a 410 and I wanted to get off at the Plough, Beddington.
I did not ring the bell as it is not a request stop. The driver did not stop.
When he went past the stop, I told him that I wanted to get off.
He replied that I did not ring the bell and I pointed out it was not a request stop. He replied that he “wasn’t psychic” and if people do not ring the bell, he does not stop.
I complained about this to Arriva and was told that there is now no difference between request stops and other stops, so one needs to always ring the bell.
However, Dave Finlow, customer services manager, told me “that this was a change in guidance to drivers, not passengers. We therefore didn’t need (and have no current plans) to publicise this”.
Since Arriva does not plan to tell the public about this, may I, through your newspaper, communicate what I consider to be a very relevant change of policy.
