I live in Woodstock Road and watched the fireworks display in Carshalton Park, which was fantastic as usual. The problem was with the traffic.

On Friday the no waiting cones went down one side of Woodstock Road as usual so most of the residents moved their cars to the other side, which left a clear side of road for people to park.

From 7pm when the fireworks started there was gridlock, cars were coming from both ways so nobody could move and they sat in the road with engines switched off until the display was over. Then the fun started.

An ambulance sat outside my house from 7.35pm until 7.50pm with its lights flashing, but was unable to move. Only then did the police start directing the cars.

There were a lot of yellow high-vis jackets of police and organisers on the roundabout, but they were obviously too busy watching the display to notice cars were parked all down the road including the middle. I never saw one traffic warden in my road.

Woodstock Road needs to be shut off completely, made one way or it needs police or wardens to walk up and down the street and enforce the parking restrictions to stop this happening in the future. It is the worst I have seen it in 22 years.
