I was amazed at the “defence” attempted by Andrew Theobald, as chairman of Sutton Governors’ Forum, of the headteacher of Bandon Hill Primary School being paid more than £205,000 (Your Say, November 6).
This, he said, was “a good news story”.
He said Isabel Ramsey has “earned” this huge sum because she has shown “determination, commitment, and skill in motivating staff and parents”.
So what about all the other headteachers in Sutton schools?
Why have they not been paid equally massive amounts?
Mr Theobald says we are missing the point because Mrs Ramsey’s pay amounts to “little more than small change” when compared to bankers’ bonuses.
No – he misses the point.
The comparison should be with what is earned by other headteachers and especially by the classroom teachers actually working with children.
Headteachers nowadays term themselves “school leaders”.
I believe leadership should be by example. I think the example set in this case is simply rotten.
