It appears Sutton Council does not learn from past mistakes when redesigning pedestrian and traffic infrastructure.
Since the £3.4m splurged on the tacky Sutton High Street scheme in 2010 – apparently resulting in many injury claims – we now have a Heart of Hackbridge project that failed its safety audit.
To be fair, the Hackbridge scheme is not tacky but it is not safe either as confirmed by the audit and the council’s recent decision to backtrack with the inclusion of a proper roundabout and the likely reinstatement of more formal zebra crossings.
It has been yet another experimental vanity project from a council with a terrible track record.
