I read with great interest in the letter headed Wallington switched on (November 27).

Currently there is a lovely Christmas Tree by Trinity Square, albeit with very few baubles adhorning it and I have only seen its lights switched on once after dark since its erection; I am in the High Street several times a week.

I think they should be switched on just before dark to make it a very welcome sight for everyone.

It would be great if Sutton businesses were asked to make a contribution to purchase enough Christmas lights to be erected all the way down the High Street, starting from Sutton Station and finishing at the very bottom of Sutton High Street.

So much money has been spent and continues to be spent on improving Sutton to encourage commuters, businesses and shoppers, so why not have a great display of Christmas lights that we can all be proud of.

How about it councillors?

I am sure businesses would be more than happy to contribute to the cost and, once purchased, they could be used creatively to change each year so the purchasing of the lights would last for years to come.
