I, together with other residents, attended a Have Your Say event at the Sutton Life Centre, on September 30.

The majority of the people who attended agreed that we did not want “yet another bin” (making three in total) in their front garden.

I was always impressed that Sutton only needed two collection bins at the very most, some borough’s have four or even five containers making the streets look very shabby.

The council’s advertisement in the Sutton Guardian (September 18) stated “If you choose a paid-for service we can offer: Properties currently without bins can purchase 80 biodegradable sacks per year for £59 (£49 with earlybird discount).”

Most of those attending welcomed the offer of bio-degradable sacks and no bin.

Have we been offered this choice?

No.

On offer: 140 and 240 litre bins only.

Do the council really expect residents to drag a full 140 or 240 litre bin through their house or indeed round a back alleyway especially if they are elderly.

Why were we asked to attend these Have Your Say meetings, was it to find out what we really wanted and then not offer it?

This suggests to me that the council do not want to continue with the green waste collection, to save money.

What a complete waste of every body’s time attending this meeting was. I am bitterly disappointed with the council’s decision and the handling of the situation.

The Liberal Democrats will not be getting my vote this year.
