Congratulations on Sutton Guardian’s latest hustings on the economy. There were some very good questions which challenged all candidates.

However, I wish to highlight the uncalled-for comment made by Paul Burstow MP in his final address to the audience.

He indicated his contempt at the other parties “magic-wand solutions to the economy” and specifically mentioned UKIP’s solution in exiting the European Union.

This general election campaign has been electrified by UKIP because the issues long ignored and suppressed by the LibLab- Con party have at long last been aired and UKIP candidates have endured much derision because of it.

Mr Burstow, being a longstanding supporter of the European Union, obviously dislikes his party’s position being challenged – note the LibDem’s third place locally in the electorate’s voting pattern in last year’s European election where UKIP came first.

UKIP has consistently offered the people in the UK a solution and this message is getting through, hence the panic in the establishment parties.

He may not like UKIP’s solution, but to contemptuously dismiss it as a “magic-wand solution” is so uncalled for as to be insulting to the political argument that the electorate overwhelmingly endorsed nationally last year by returning 24 UKIP MEPs and annihilating the Liberal Democrat representation to a mere one.

Professor Angus Dalgleish has put his considerable reputation on the line. Note his current achievement in developing a vaccine for pancreatic cancer which will save countless lives.

He would not have stood for UKIP unless he believed that the European Union has been a disaster for this country and the NHS in particular.

His knowledge of our economy, laws and how they have affected his work and affected by EU interference is not to be contemptuously dismissed so readily. It was unworthy of Mr Burstow.
