I was interested to read the letters from Mrs Hibberd and Dr Hudson concerning the closure of St Heliers’ Accident and Emergency.
To ensure I had all the facts correct I visited the hospital to see for myself and confirm that all references to A&E have quietly been removed, apart from Emergencies, and replaced by Urgent Care Centre, confirming the A&E has closed.
Does this confirm the hospital has been downgraded?
Dr Hudson says that the urgent care centre enhances the non-existent A&E.
If having a clinic to replace A&E is a new policy there should have been an announcement giving time for the public to be involved.
The other local hospitals St George’s, Kingston and Croydon have not had the same action taken so far.
There are so many mixed messages.
