Following on from the letter by John Hanlon with regards to the “Gateway debacle” (Your Say March 12), there are many more faults with the scheme that lots of people are furious about.

Let us start with travelling to Sutton station from Belmont.

Re-siting the bus stop where it is, around 30 yards from the station, is most unhelpful for those with walking difficulties.

Wait until the ground is icy next winter and see how many more commuters come a cropper.

Secondly, to take away the traffic lights from the station is an accident waiting to happen.

Lots of people cross there to go down Mulgrave Road or to the High Street, and now they have to dodge incessant traffic.

The worst cock-up of this whole affair is the yellow grid (instead of the keep clear markings).

This only covers half the road on the Mulgrave Road side.

When exiting Mulgrave Road to turn right towards Belmont it is now virtually impossible to get out when the lights are either red or green.

When green, the traffic is non-stop, when red there is no room to exit.

I am quite sure the local taxis stuck in Mulgrave Road and seeing their fares stranded at the station are fuming over this.

All in all, it has been a spectacular waste of money by this Liberal Democrat council.

In my book, the person who designed this monstrosity which has damaged the area around the station should be dismissed forthwith.
