I agree with Linda Junesi (Your Say, May 14).

I was born in Sutton and have lived here all my life – I am now 50.

Sutton used to be full of lovely little boutiques and cafes, along with Shinners and the Saturday market by what used to be Sainsbury’s.

The High Street had character with the old arcade, etc, and was a bustling town.

I know progress and change happens, but Sutton now looks sad and is dying.

There are hardly any shops of interest that would help increase shoppers – New Look seems to be the only large fashion shop with a tiny toy shop that only seems to stock size six and then a leap over to the more mature shops like Marks and Spencer and Bhs.

Sutton needs to entice other popular fashion houses to make the high street busier with shoppers with money to spend.

Shops like Oasis, Zara, Warehouse (I know they are in Debenhams) River Island, etc.

This would stop people going to Croydon or Kingston and give Sutton the extra revenue it needs.

I for one am sick and tired of seeing these cheap discount shops that sell rubbish – pound shops have their place and I personally love Wilkinsons, but we need some more decent shop chains to come here.

Simply adding hotels, supermarkets and pound shops is not the way forward and soon I fear Sutton will be like a ghost town.

That would be very sad considering it has just been voted the UK’s most popular hotspot.
