I and doubtless many others who arrive at Sutton station share Audrey Spurdes’ dissatisfaction (Your Say, May 14). I can provide a bit more information.

Letter to the Editor: Countdown signs for all stops

Before last September there were two bus shelters at which we could wait for southbound buses, both with “countdowns”, which told us when buses were actually expected to arrive.

Then the costly and disruptive improvement works began.

For several months, we had to wait at an exposed temporary stop – with no countdown.

Eventually a single new bus shelter was put up – still with no countdown.

The works were supposed to have been completed by the end of March.

When they were not, I wrote to Sutton Council enquiring about progress.

On April 10, I was told by the Opportunity Sutton Team that Transport for London would install the countdowns in the shelter before the end of April; also that a countdown in the station was expected to be in place in mid-May.

The end of April and mid-May have come and gone, and nothing has happened.

So travellers continue to be less well served than they were before the improvements.

And as others have noted, even the fancy new clock does not work. Why? Who is responsible for this fiasco?
