The Conservative candidate should not complain that his party could not spare more of the £16.7m, more than twice Labour’s amount and nearly four times the Liberal Democrats, it threw at the election for his campaign (Losing to Lib Dems “hard to swallow”, May 21).

He still benefited from the thousands of election emails the Tories sent out every day.

Goodness knows how much was paid for all those addresses.

And the party paid his deposit, supplied his leaflets and possibly paid for people to deliver them.

Contrast that with the National Health Action Party where every penny had to be found by the candidate, including his lost deposit and every leaflet, all delivered by a small band of supporters.

A pity money played such a big part.
