In the recent Wallington South by-election the Green Party, which has been campaigning against the council’s disastrous incinerator for six years, appeared to have been joined by several other anti-incinerator candidates.
For example, both Conservative councillors and Conservative election literature have been keen to point out the well-publicised indiscretions of the ruling Liberal Democrats, but both they and the borough’s new Conservative MP Paul Scully have been eerily quiet about their own position.
Looking at Conservative (and Labour) enthusiasm for this dinosaur technology elsewhere in the country, one assumes that the “big boys” are trying to mop up votes under false pretences.
We challenge Mr Scully and local Conservative councillors to either publicly call for the council to scrap this project, or to stop the hypocrisy and back the Liberal Democrat incinerator.
